Armour Burial Society Funeral Plan Key Information
Please check if the information on the policy schedule is correct and complete and that all your dependants are listed accordingly.
Armour Burial Society will NOT bury relatives who are not covered by the funeral plan. If you do not have a membership card, you will pay for transportation of the body if the distance is over 60km from our mortuary.
If the deceased is at home, please contact us immediately. Do not contact other funeral parlours because they will charge you and the family will be held accountable for the costs.
You must report the death at our offices within 6 months. No funeral benefit is payable if we are notified of the claim later than 6 months after a deceased’s date of death.
Waiting Periods of Policy:
- Suicide: 12 months waiting period.
- 5-months waiting period for ages 14-50 & 6-months waiting period for age 51-99.

If your policy has lapsed and you reinstate your policy:
It is important that you pay your premium every month. Your policy will lapse if the premium is not paid. If your policy is not paid for 2 months 10 days, it will lapse.

Armour Burial Society Terms & Conditions:
- Armour Burial Society Plans: Silver Plan, Gold Plan & Platinum Plan.
When does my cover start?
Your policy will trigger on the first day of the month after receipt of your first premium and the cover instigates, subject to the relevant waiting period. If the first premium was received on or before the 20th of the current month, the effective entry date will be on the 1st of the current month. Should the first premium be received after the 20th of the current month, then the effective entry date will be on the 1st of the following month.
Chilling period:
Armour Burial Society offers a chilling period of 31 days commencing on the date in which the policyholder received their policy documents confirming cover. Your premiums will be refunded subject to the terms and conditions set out in the Policyholder Protection Rules. No penalty will be charged.
Who can become a member?
Any person who has a South African Identity document and who is between the ages of 16-99 years can become a member. If you are under 18, you must bring a consent form from your guardian. If there is no guardian available, bring an affidavit from the SAPS. Children are covered under their parent’s funeral plan until they are 21 years old. Children under the age of 23, who are full-time students, can be covered under their parent’s funeral plan, provided that they produce their proof of registration.
Children born with cognitive challenges or physical disabilities, who by the age of 21 were already covered under their parent’s funeral plan, can remain under their parent’s funeral plan. Armour Burial Society reserves the right to request medical proof confirming permanent disability and proof of factual dependency on the parent. Persons who are above the age of 21, who have disabilities and who were not part of the Armour Burial Society Plan before the age of 21, will need to take out their own funeral plan as adults.
What is the waiting period?
The waiting period is in place not only to protect your family from fraud but also to protect Armour Burial Society from fraudulent claims. The waiting period is five (5) months for members between the ages of 14 and 65 years. All members between the ages of 65 – 99 years will have to wait six (6) months. This waiting period is applicable to death due to natural or unnatural causes (other than accident or suicide).
Payment methods:

For how long does my cover last?
Your funeral plan will remain active as long as you pay the full premium on time every month until your death, or until you stop making payments. If payments are missed, the plan will lapse after two consecutive missed premiums. A grace period of 67 days is provided to catch up on missed payments.
When does my funeral plan lapse?
The funeral plan will lapse after the non-payment of two consecutive premiums. It is crucial to pay monthly premiums to maintain coverage. If the primary member passes, their spouse or partner may choose to continue the plan. If not, the plan will lapse.
If my funeral plan lapses, do I get a refund?
No refund is provided if a funeral plan lapses. Cover is provided on a month-to-month basis, and no surrender values are applicable.
Can I re-establish my funeral plan?
A lapsed plan can be reinstated under specific terms, subject to payment of all unpaid premiums. Armour Burial Society reserves the right to accept or decline reinstatement requests.
